I study how gender and intersecting social identities shape who is recognized as competent, qualified, and likely to succeed.

My work examines how these processes through two complementary lines of research.

I examine how gender roles shape expectations and evaluative standards, particularly judgments of competence and professional fit. This work considers how gendered expectations interact with the expectations associated with professional roles to shape how people are perceived and evaluated.

I examine how intersecting social identities shape both sides of the evaluative process: the standards people apply when evaluating others and how people interpret and respond to the evaluations and identity-relevant experiences they encounter.
